Library Resources
State law requires all lists of titles being added to libraries be made accessible for review by the public for at least 30 days.
Additional information:
30 day public reviews excludes replacing damaged copies or ordering additional copies of previously approved books as long as the ISBNs are identical.
Notwithstanding any other criteria, a title will not be selected if it contains obscene material (as defined by Penal Code 43.21(a)(1)(B)) or harmful material (as defined by Penal Code 43.24(a)(2)).
Materials added to the library collection meet expectations in compliance with state law, taking into consideration their representation, quality, literary merit, sophistication, and ability to enrich and enhance the support of state and local curriculum.
Some but not all types of materials may be selected when professional reviews are not available. If eligible for selection, these items must still meet the selection criteria. Librarians use specific parameters to determine whether they can request an item be ordered.
