How do I consent or decline?

We have implemented an 'Active Consent' policy. Parents or legal guardians must opt-in in order for their child to receive health curriculum instruction. Consent forms will be made available later in the fall.

If parents or legal guardians do not provide consent, students will not receive instruction related to SB 9 and human sexuality topics.

Where can I view the material?

Review health curriculums below

  • The ESTEEM logo features a compass and the word 'ESTEEM' in bold, black letters with the 'S' in red. The text below reads 'A primary prevention curriculum for optimum health.'

ESTEEM is the SHAC (School Health Advisory Committee) recommended and School Board Approved Health Curriculum for the 6th - 12th grades. Per SB 9 and HB 1525, a resolution was passed to have the SHAC committee review Health Curriculum and make a recommendation. On June 16, 2022, the SHAC committee made the recommendation and the Board adopted the ESTEEM Curriculum.

Parents may preview the materials at the ESTEEM Website. This site only contains the first pages of each book. If the parent would like to see the entire book or have a copy for themselves, they should make a request to the campus.

An anonymous survey is given to students before the lessons. The survey is given only to students that “opt-in” to the curriculum. Students are given the option not to take the survey as well. If you do not wish for your student to take the survey, your student may deny taking it.

Students that do not “Opt-In” to Lessons 3, 4, 5, and 9 will participate in the other lessons (1, 2, 6, 7, 8, 10). Students will still receive a book, but the pages with sensitive lessons will be removed before the students receive the book.

  • The QuaverEd logo features a stylized green 'Q' with the word 'QuaverEd' in blue and green letters.

QuaverHealth is the School Health Advisory Committee ( SHAC) recommended and School Board Approved Health Curriculum for the Kindergarten-5th grade. Per SB 9 and HB 1525, a resolution was passed to have the SHAC committee review Health Curriculum and make a recommendation. On June 30, 2022, the SHAC committee made the recommendation and the Board adopted the QuaverHealth Curriculum.

Parents may request to preview the materials by filling out the Request to View QuaverEd Materials. Since this is an online curriculum that is copyrighted, CHISD cannot post it in the public domain. Once you fill out the form, someone will send you a link to the grade level material you are requesting.

In November of 2020, the State Board of Education gave final approval to the new health education outlined by the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS.) The new health education TEKS were effective in August of 2022, and will be implemented in classrooms this new academic year, according to theTexas Education Agency (TEA). This is the first update to the health curriculum in 22 years.

Chapel Hill Independent School District (CHISD) will implement a new health curriculum this academic year starting in kindergarten and continuing through high school,

Who makes these decisions?

According to the Texas Education Code, Section 28.004, the CHISD Board of Trustees is required to establish a local School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) to assist the district in ensuring that local community values are reflected in the district's health education instruction.
