The CHISD Police Department incident flow chart is a visual representation of how the department handles incidents occurring on and off school district property.
A: Yes. Chapel Hill ISD Police Officers are licensed peace officers. They are certified by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.
A: Yes. They have statewide authority to make arrests both on and off campus.
A: None. Police officers are not disciplinarians and should not be used as such. Our role is to investigate violations of law and ordinances in accordance with the authority and power specified by Board Policy. While police actions/classifications may result in the assignment of disciplinary consequence, discipline is the responsibility of the campus administrators.
A: Board Policy CKE (LOCAL) specifies this jurisdiction as: “…all territory in the boundaries of the district and all property outside the boundaries of the district that is owned, leased, or rented by or otherwise under the control of the district and the board that employ the peace officer or security personnel or that enter into a memorandum of understanding for the provision of a school resource officer.”
Education Code 37.081(a)
A: Yes. Chapel Hill ISD Police Officers are authorized to issue traffic citations. Police Officers will monitor speed in school zones in addition to enforcing other traffic infractions
A: Tickets issued by Chapel Hill ISD Police Officers are adjudicated in the Justice of the Peace Courts of Smith County.
A: If you do not appear in court or pay your fine, the court may issue a warrant for your arrest. Any police officer may arrest you once the warrant is issued.
A: Calls should be made to the administration of the reporting student's campus. Administration may deem it to be an issue in which the Chapel Hill ISD Police Department is notified. After hours calls will be answered the following business day.

JURISDICTION
The jurisdiction of the Chapel Hill Independent School District Police Department includes all the geographical territory within the contiguous boundaries of the District, as well as any property outside the District that is owned, leased, or otherwise under the control of the Board of Trustees.
AUTHORITY
Chapel Hill Independent School District Police Officer, are certified by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement, have the same authority and responsibilities as municipal officers in that they have the ability to issue citations, make arrests, respond to calls for service, and document incidents that transpire in and around property owned by the Chapel Hill Independent School District.
