Inclement Weather
Inclement Weather Procedures – Chapel Hill ISD
When severe or winter weather is possible overnight, Chapel Hill ISD operations, transportation, and safety staff begin monitoring road conditions early in the morning, typically around 4:00 a.m. Special attention is given to bus routes and rural roadways to determine whether travel can be completed safely.
Information gathered by district staff, campus leadership, transportation personnel, and the Chapel Hill ISD Police Department is reviewed with the Superintendent. Based on these reports, the Superintendent will determine whether schools will open as scheduled, open on a delayed schedule, or close for the day. When a change to normal operations is necessary, families can expect an announcement by approximately 6:00 a.m., if not the evening before.
How Families Will Be Notified
Chapel Hill ISD will share updates using the following communication channels:
-
ParentSquare (phone calls, text messages, and emails)
-
Chapel Hill ISD website
-
District social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X)
-
Local television and radio stations
If no message is sent by the district, schools will operate on their regular schedule.
Weather Changes During the School Day
If conditions deteriorate after students have arrived on campus, district leaders will evaluate whether an early release is needed to ensure students and staff return home safely before road conditions or visibility worsen. Should an early release be necessary, families will receive detailed instructions through ParentSquare regarding dismissal times and transportation.
