Jackson Elementary to open Sensory Room on campus

Jackson Elementary will celebrate the opening of its new Sensory Room on Thursday, March 5 at 9am. This dedicated space is designed to support the sensory and emotional needs of students ages 3 through 3rd grade. The room reflects the campus’s commitment to nurturing the whole child by helping students regulate emotions, build self-awareness, and prepare for learning.
At Jackson Elementary, educators recognize that for young children, behavior is often a form of communication. The sensory room provides intentional, structured support to help students respond to their needs in healthy ways — whether through calming strategies or movement-based activities — so they can return to the classroom focused and ready to learn. The new room is not a consequence, but a proactive tool for growth.
“Our new sensory room represents our commitment to supporting every student at Jackson,” said Amelia Chavez, Principal. “By creating an environment designed for what each individual child needs, we are ensuring that all students have access to the resources they need to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.”
The addition of the sensory room is part of Chapel Hill ISD’s continued focus on meeting students’ academic, social, and emotional needs.
