School Health Advisory Council (SHAC)

The School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) for Chapel Hill ISD functions in compliance with the Texas Education Code, Section 28.004.  The purpose is to assist the district in ensuring that local community values are reflected in the district’s health education instruction.  The specific duties of SHAC include making recommendations related to health education curriculum and hours of instruction, nutrition and fitness education, appropriate methods for instruction of human sexuality and strategies for a coordinated school health and safety program.

The mission of the Chapel Hill ISD SHAC is to build a healthy school community that ensures all children will graduate with the knowledge and skills to maintain a healthy lifestyle.”

Goals for 2023-2024:

  1. Increase communication through out the district and the community as to the function of

    SHAC and increase attendance of SHAC member to scheduled meetings.

  2. Review current weather related heat policy and/or recommendations and identify where

    improvements can be made.

  3. Review and receive presentation of fragrance free guideline recommendations in schools and determine where SHAC can make adaptions.

  4. Review and receive presentation on community resources that are available for Chapel Hill

    community, parents and students and push information forward through social media outlets.

  5. Review and receive presentation from Mosaic Counseling regarding counseling available for

    mental health issues facing students. Organize and share this information with staff and the


  6. Review and receive presentation from Texas Children's Nature Network on outdoor learning

    and see where CHISD can make adaptions.
