Jackson Elementary students in Kindergarten and first grade had an opportunity to attend a production of Pete the Cat at the University of Texas at Tyler’s Cowan Center of Fine and Performing Arts on November 9, 2023. Jackson’s Fine Arts teacher, Mrs. Greer arranged this opportunity in order to inspire and encourage students to see the value in the arts, as well as find enjoyment in seeing one of their favorite book characters on stage.

This field trip was a resounding success as students immersed themselves in the captivating world of live performance. Excitement buzzed in the air as the auditorium lights dimmed, and the curtains drew open to reveal a stage alive with drama and artistry. The students were visibly enthralled, their eyes wide with anticipation and curiosity. Laughter and applause echoed through the theater, a testament to the engaging storyline and the impressive talent of the performers. As the final curtain fell, animated chatter filled the air as students exchanged their favorite moments and discussed the nuances of the play. The experience not only provided entertainment but also fostered a deeper appreciation for the arts among the students, leaving them with lasting memories of a day filled with shared joy and cultural enrichment.

Principal Judy Carpenter was excited that the students were offered this opportunity and said, “We enjoy creating memorable experiences that will be forever sketched into our children’s minds.”
