Chapel Hill ISD Junior High School Honors Band Achieves Double Victory at State-Level Competition

Chapel Hill, Smith County - The Chapel Hill Independent School District Junior High School Honors Band has been declared first place winner in the March and Concert categories at the state level of the Outstanding Performance Series.

"This momentous accomplishment stands as a testament to the unwavering commitment and tireless efforts of our talented students," said Head Band Director Yvonne Garcia.

Earlier this summer, the band earned a spot in the Outstanding Performance Series led by the Association of Texas Small School Bands. Their performances were evaluated and ranked at the regional and area level, leading to their advancement at the state competition.

On Thursday, July 20, state finalists were judged and ranked live at the Texas Bandmasters Association in San Antonio. Amidst fierce competition, Chapel Hill Junior High School Honors Band emerged as the undisputed champions in both the March and Concert piece categories.

"Winning first place in one category is a tremendous win, but to secure top honors in both categories is a truly awe-inspiring achievement. Our students have achieved an unprecedented accomplishment,” said Jaylon Stewart, former head band director at Chapel Hill Junior High School.

In the 'March' category for the Outstanding Performance Series, 61 marches were submitted and competed at the regional level. Out of those, 34 proceeded to the area level and 10 made it to the state level. In the 'Concert' category, 130 pieces were entered for competition at the regional level. Of these, 51 advanced to the area level and 15 made it to the state level.
