Chapel Hill ISD is proud to announce that Emily Greer, fine arts teacher at Jackson Elementary, has been named the 2027 Region 7 Elementary Teacher of the Year.
Greer will represent Region 7 as a semifinalist in the 2027 Texas Teacher of the Year competition, advancing alongside 39 other regional educators from across the state.
For nearly two decades, Greer has inspired Chapel Hill ISD students through music, art and theater. She teaches students ranging from three-year-old Head Start and prekindergarten through third grade, creating opportunities for young learners to explore their creativity and discover talents they may not have known they possessed.
“I cannot think of a better person in our district to represent our teachers, our staff and our educators than Emily Greer,” Chapel Hill ISD Superintendent Lamond Dean said. “Greer has been at Jackson Elementary for almost two decades, and the way that she pours into our children and the passion she has is phenomenal.”
Greer believes the arts introduce students to new experiences and perspectives while helping them build confidence, take creative risks and recognize that they are capable of more than they imagined.
A graduate of Hardin-Simmons University, Greer earned a Bachelor of Behavioral Science in Education before completing a Master of Science in Library Science at the University of North Texas. Throughout her career, she has received multiple campus Teacher of the Month and Teacher of the Year honors. She was also recognized by Humanities Texas as an Outstanding Teacher of the Humanities.
Greer was formally recognized during Region 7 Education Service Center’s Teacher of the Year Luncheon on July 14. Orr Cadillac GMC provided a $2,500 grand prize donation that was divided between the Region 7 elementary and secondary honorees.
In September, Greer will advance to the next stage of the Texas Teacher of the Year program. A panel of judges will review the 40 regional honorees and select six finalists to participate in personal interviews in Austin. The state’s Elementary and Secondary Teachers of the Year will be announced during the Texas Teacher of the Year Awards Ceremony.
The educators selected as Texas Teachers of the Year serve as spokespeople for teachers throughout the state and as traveling ambassadors for public education while continuing to teach in their classrooms.
“We are incredibly proud of Emily and the way she represents Jackson Elementary, Chapel Hill ISD and the teaching profession,” Dean said. “Her dedication to students and her belief in the power of the arts embody what it means to be Bulldog Bold.”
