Kissam Student Council

Kissam Student Council

  • What is the purpose of Student Council?

The purpose is to strive for good citizenship, respect all individuals in the school and community, involve all students in sharing ideas to make our school the best it can be, help all students work together in our school, give all students practice in democracy in action, and help our citizens and groups in the community.

The Student Council membership will consist of one representative and one alternate from each third, fourth, and fifth grade class. Student Council members will have various responsibilities around Kissam and will lead community projects. All representatives must maintain a passing average in each subject and at least an "S" in citizenship. In order to be a representative, you must be a hard-working diligent student, relate well to other students and adults, and cannot have any office referrals.

Student Council meetings are held in the library beginning at 7:30 a.m., one Wednesday a month. A calendar of meeting dates will be given to each member. Student Council members are required to attend the meetings unless they are absent from school on the meeting date.

Our Student Council candidates will be allowed to hang no more than two campaign posters next to their classroom by Friday, September 13th. They will be required to give a 1-2 minute campaign speech to their classmates on Friday, September 27th. On Friday, September 27th each classroom will vote, by secret ballot, for the representative and alternate from their classroom.

What Projects will Student Council participate in?

Student Council, for the past several years, has served at a Retirement Home during the Holiday season. They will be able to sing Christmas Carols, and serve food to the elderly.

We will have two fundraisers. One fundraiser that has been done in the past was the Valentine's Day Dance. This has been a lot of fun for the students, and parents to participate in! The other fundraiser will be announced later in the year.

The Student Council Coordinator is Mrs. Olivia Sims, one of our Counselors. If you have any questions, you can email her at simso@chapelhillisd.org or call her at 903-566-8334 Ext. 1203.

Thank you, and we look forward to an excellent year of service through our Student Council Organization!
