Roberto Plata

Hello, my name is Roberto Plata. I am the bilingual Head Start teacher at Jackson Elementary. I have been in education for twenty-seven years and three of those years have been at Chapel Hill ISD, where I have taught 4th grade and Head Start.

I graduated high school in 1984 from San Jose High School. I continued my education at The Industrial University of Santander at Bucaramanga, Colombia, my home country, where I obtained my bachelor’s degree in Teaching Languages in 1992. After teaching for twelve years in my country, I was selected to work as a Spanish teacher at Wade Hampton High School in Greenville, SC. for three years. While working there I pursued my master’s degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) at Greensboro College in Greensboro, NC., and I graduated in 2011. Then I returned to Colombia and continued teaching for three years until I was hired to teach Spanish at Castle Heights Middle School in Rock Hill, SC for another three years. Once I finished my contract there, I decided to move to Texas, where I have lived during the past four years.

I have been married for twenty-four years to my gorgeous wife Patricia, and we have three beautiful children, Paola, Gabriela, and Matthew. We also have two adorable granddaughters, Ashley and Abby. My goal for this school year with my Head Start kids is to facilitate comprehension and boost student achievement by implementing the district designed curriculum with fidelity.
