The Wings Program provides an environment where students who are at risk of school failure may achieve success and complete requirements for high school graduation. The population served includes pregnant/parenting students, recovered dropouts, and students who are seniors at the time of enrollment. Though alternative in method, Wings encompasses the same objectives and accountability as a traditional classroom while addressing individual student needs. The self-paced curriculum is correlated with TAKS objectives, is aligned with TEKS, and provides supplementation when needed. Wings offers 28 high school courses, core middle school courses, and a remediation component. Since Wings can accommodate only a small number of students, entrance is based on evaluation of personal, peer, family, and community risk factors. Upon admission, each student’s achievement level is assessed so that individualized programs can be developed. Teachers track student progress and modify as needed. Mission Statement The mission of The Wings Program is to provide a safe, disciplined environment that encourages students to develop and succeed at their own pace. Wings provides an environment that will encourage and promote academic and behavioral potential, by developing positive attitudes, a sense of self-worth and a vision of becoming successful and productive citizens in the community.
