About Mrs. Beard

This is my first year at Chapel High School, but my 8th year with Chapel Hill ISD.  I moved up to the high school this year from the middle school to teach Algebra I.  I have a BS degree in both Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Texas - Tyler. 

I have been married for almost 19 years to my husband Randy.  We have a seventeen year old son, Shawn, who is a junior this year.

Classroom Activities

 

 We will continue with quadratics and factoring until the end of the year to prepare your student for Geometry next school year.  We are currently working on our final project of the year.  It is the Modes of Transportation Graphing project, which is a test grade.  The second due date is Tuesday, May 13, and the final product is due Tuesday, May 20.  Please encourage you student to do their best on this project.  They are being extemely creative with this and I am very proud of them. 

We have had a great year together and I want you to know how thankful I am that you have shared your children with me.

Algebra I (0220) & Algebra I Lab (0222)
Grades:  9     Length:  2 semesters       Credit: 1 state credit per year     GPA weight: 1.0    1 local credit per year     GPA weight:   0
Note:  This course will take 2 periods in the schedule.
This course emphasizes:

  • algebraic thinking and symbolic reasoning
  • the use of functions to represent and model, analyze and interpret relationships
  • the use of many situations to set up equations and a variety of methods to solve these equations
  • continual use of problem-solving

Algebra I Pre-AP (0221)
Grade:  9    Length:  2 semesters        Credit: 1 credit per year              GPA weight: 1.2
Prerequisite:  Average of ‘85’ or higher in 8th grade Math and teacher recommendation
This course emphasizes:

  • topics covered in Algebra I in greater extension and depth
  • problem solving and higher-order critical skills
  • introduction to approximation of area and calculus vocabulary
