About Mr. Adams

Mr. Adams is the Drafting Technology teacher and has been teaching for 41 years, with 36 at Chapel Hill High School. He is a graduate of Kilgore College, East Texas State University ( A&M Commerce ) with associate, bachelor, and master's degrees. The drafting program during this time has developed an outstanding reputation in the community and state with students winning numerous awards during these years. They have included regional recognition, several state championships, and national wins. This program was also twice recognized at the national technology conference  as the " Texas Technology Program Of The Year" and Mr. Adams selected " Texas Technology Teacher Of The Year ".

Course Descriptions

This field of study teaches lettering, engineering geometry, multi-view drawings, sectioning, pictorial representation, dimensioning, detail and assembly drawings, reproduction of drawings, and selection of equipment and supplies.  Other courses in this sequence teach principles of residential design, architectural styles, and construction practices. Activities focus on the development of original working drawings, presentation drawings, and model building.

Freshman Year: Engineering Graphics
Sophomore Year: Architectural Graphics
Junior Year: Computer Applications
Senior Year:

Research, Design & Development (first semester)
Problems & Solutions in Technology (second semester)

Engineering Graphics (7011)
Grades: 9-12    Length: 2 semesters     Credit: 1 credit per year      GPA weight: 1.1

Note: This course articulates on the state-wide articulation agreement with community colleges for 3 hours in Technology with a grade of "B" or higher. Such a grade qualifies as an Advanced Measure on the Distinguished Achievement Plan.

This course emphasizes:

  • applying engineering graphics technology to practical problems of drafting
  • producing a variety of engineering drawings using appropriate tools, equipment, and processes
  • thinking critically and making decisions relating to engineering graphics
  • proper maintenance of engineering graphics tools and equipment  

Architectural Graphics (7012)
Grades: 10-12     Length: 2 semesters      Credit: 1 credit per year      GPA weight: 1.1
Prerequisite: Engineering Graphics and teacher approval

Note: This course articulates on the state-wide articulation agreement with community colleges for 3 hours in Technology with a grade of "B" or higher. Such a grade qualifies as an Advanced Measure on the Distinguished Achievement Plan.  Upon successful completion of this course, students are eligible for the AutoCAD 2000 Certification.

This course emphasizes:

  • applying architectural graphics technology to practical problems in drafting of structures
  • using appropriate architectural graphic design processes and techniques to develop a variety of architectural drawings
  • producing a variety of architectural drawings using the appropriate tools, equipment, machines, materials, and processes
  • solving problems, thinking critically, and making decisions relating to architecture

Computer Applications (7013)
Grades: 11-12    Length: 2 semesters     Credit: 1 credit per year      GPA weight: 1.1
Prerequisites: Engineering Graphics, Architectural Graphics, and teacher approval

Note: This course articulates on the state-wide articulation agreement with community colleges for 3 hours in Technology with a grade of "B" or higher. Such a grade qualifies as an Advanced Measure on the Distinguished Achievement Plan.  This course meets the requirements for Technology Applications credit.

This course emphasizes:

  • using computer applications to design mechanical drawings
  • the importance of quality and how it is measure in computer technology
  • understanding the importance of maintenance of computer technology
  • career opportunities, requirements and expectations in computer technology
  • critical thinking, problem solving, and making decisions related to computer technology

Research, Design, and Development (7014)
Grades: 11-12    Length: 2 semesters     Credit: 1 credit per year       GPA weight: 1.0
Prerequisites: Engineering Graphics, Architectural Graphics, Computer Applications, and teacher approval
This course emphasizes:

  • a systems approach to conducting technological research, design, and development in drafting problems and projects
  • designing a product using appropriate design processes and techniques
  • problem solving, critical thinking, and making correct decisions concerning research, design, and development
  • applying communication, math, and science knowledge and skills to research and development projects

Problems and Solutions in Technology (7016)
Grades: 11-12   Length: 2 semesters     Credit: 1 credit per year     GPA weight: 1.0
Prerequisites: Engineering Graphics, Architectural Graphics, Computer Applications, Research, Design, and Development, and teacher approval
This course emphasizes:

  • determining and using the appropriate drafting technology to solve a problem or complete a task
  • developing drawings, illustrations, or models to describe solutions to problems
  • providing opportunities for the student to think critically and make correct decisions concerning drafting technology
  • applying communication, math, and science knowledge and skills to achieve solutions
