I have to say, there is truly no better grade to teach! Every single day brings new opportunities and new challenges! I am blessed with a wonderful husband who is currently the assistant principal at CHHS, and an energetic 5th grade daughter who attends Kissam. I earned my bachelor and masters degrees from Texas A&M-Commerce. One of the most rewarding aspects of my job is to watch my students blossom as writers. English                                                                                          All Year

Seventh grade English students study TEKS objectives including extensive grammar emphasis and writing practice. Various forms of writing are reviewed and research skills are introduced. Students will also focus on multiple literature forms and concepts as well as speaking and listening skills. Students will be able to select and use different forms of writing for specific purposes such as to inform, persuade or entertain. Editing with attention to grammar usage, spelling, punctuation and other conventions of written language will be emphasized.

Pre-AP English                                All Year

The purpose of the Pre-Advanced Placement course is to give middle school students the opportunity to practice, at the appropriate level, skills that will enable them to be successful in AP classes in high school. The pre-AP class exposes students to the type of expectations and activities required by the AP program. The class includes the seventh grade TAKS objectives plus further enrichment with Pre-AP curriculum. Various outside projects will be assigned each six weeks which may involve novel studies, research, poetry, and UIL practices and competitions. Successful Pre-AP students are typically task oriented, proficient readers who are able to accept and complete additional academic responsibilities. Parental support also plays a key role in student success.
