The Board of Trustees appoints the Superintendent of Schools as the chief administrator and executive officer. With the assistance of her staff, the Superintendent directs the total educational and administrative programs in accordance with Board policies and the rules of the Texas Education Agency. The Superintendent attends all Board meetings and brings recommendations to the Board for action in carrying out the school district business. With twenty-four years of experience in public education, Dr. Cook began her career as an elementary school teacher in the Winona Independent School District. She was hired in 1990 at Chapel Hill ISD - Jackson Elementary as an elementary teacher. She left CHISD to begin working on her doctorate as Texas A&M Commerce (formerly East TX State). While living in the Commerce area, Dr. Cook worked as an adjunct professor at Texas A&M Commerce - teaching various education preparation courses. In addition, Dr. Cook worked as an elementary teacher in Greenville ISD. In 1992, Dr. Cook, along with her husband, decided to relocate back to the Tyler area to begin a family. Dr. Cook was hired as a middle school teacher at Chapel Hill Middle School in 1992. In addition to teaching, Dr. Cook has held the post of curriculum coordinator and curriculum director from 1993 through 1999 before being named as assistant superintendent in Chapel Hill ISD in 2000. Dr. Cook, a graduate of Chapel Hill High School, attended Abilene Christian University for one year. Dr. Cook completed and earned her undergraduate degree (1986) and master's degree (1990) from the University of Texas at Tyler. She received her doctoral degree in 1995 from the Texas A&M Commerce.
Dr. Cook is an active member of the West Erwin Church of Christ, teaching the 2nd Grade class, writing Bible Class curriculum for the elementary, and serving as a Missions Committee Member. |
