About Mr. Dahlgren

 Mr. Dahlgren is in his second year at Chapel Hill High School and his tenth year in education.  He recieved his Bachelor of Fine Art degree from the University of Texas at Tyler and his Masters of Educational Leadership from Stephen F. Austin State University.  Mr. Dahlgren teaches all of the Art classes from Art 1 to Advanced Placement (or AP) Studio Art 4.

Classroom Activities

Notes to Parents: Each student is responsible for paying an Art supply fee which assists in purchasing the necessary supplies for class.  The fee for Art 1 is $5, Art 2 is $10, and Art 3 Pre-AP and AP Art 4 is $20.      Many students have taken care of this responsibilty, while some have not.  Please assist us in this matter by taking care of your students Art supply fee as soon as possible.  Thank You very much!

Course Descriptions

Art I (1010)
Grades: 9-12    Length: 2 semesters      Credit: 1 credit per year     GPA Weight: 1.0

Note: This course requires a $5.00 supply fee.

This course emphasizes:

  • basic instruction of the elements of art and the principles of design
  • the use of variety of media and techniques to produce student-generated works of art

Art II (1020)
Grades: 10-12    Length: 2 semesters     Credit: 1 credit per year      GPA weight: 1.0
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Art I and teacher recommendation

Note: Theis courses require a $10.00 supply fee.

This course emphasizes:

  • expansion of skills introduced in Art I
  • utilization of additional media and technique in the production of student-generated works of art

Art III Pre-AP (1030)
Grades: 11-12    Length: 2 semesters     Credit: 1 credit per year      GPA weight: 1.2
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Art I and Art II and teacher approval

Note: This course requires a $20.00 supply fee.

This course enables students to:

  • prepare for successful portfolio performance
  • develop technical skills
  • emphasize the visual elements and principles of design

Art IV AP (1040)
Grades: 11-12    Length: 2 semesters     Credit: 1 credit per year      GPA weight: 1.4
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Art III Pre-AP and teacher approval

Note: This course requires supplies and fees averaging $175.00 per year.

This course emphasizes:

  • college-level art study
  • the demonstration of mastery in particular subjects and in handling various media through the AP portfolio
  • developing the ability to critique one's own work and the work of others
  • develop a working knowledge of the history of art and artists
