About Mr. Nelson

I have been a Chapel Hill Bulldog for 3 years.  I have been an Ag educator for 24 years.  I am presently teaching Agriculture Science, Agriculture Mechanics and Equine Science.  I also sponsor FFA and we are actively involved in showing livestock and building Ag Mechanic projects.

Classroom Activities
  • Students are presently building bar-b-que pits, birdhouses, and swings.  An upcoming project is to build the inside of a cargo trailer.
  • Some students will be going to Houston Livestock Show during Spring Break.
  • We have two county shows this spring.

Introduction to World of Agricultural Science and Technology (9000)
Grades: 9-12    Length: 1 semester     Credit: ½ credit      GPA weight: 1.0
Prerequisites: None
This course emphasizes:

  • agricultural career development
  • leadership through participation in FFA
  • communication skills and personal finance

Applied Agriculture Science and Technology (9010)
Grades: 9-12    Length: 1 semester      Credit: ½ credit       GPA weight: 1.0
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Intro. to World of Agricultural Science and Technology
This course emphasizes:

  • comprehensive agricultural science studies, including soils, plants, agricultural construction
  • supervised agricultural experience programs
  • leadership through participation in FFA

Agricultural Metal Fabrication Technology (9028)
Grades: 10-12    Length: 1 semester      Credit: ½ credit       GPA weight: 1.0
Prerequisite: Introduction to World of Agricultural Science and Technology

Note: This course is designed to develop a student's skill in metal equipment assembly and joining processes.

This course emphasizes:

  • arc welding (stick - mig)
  • oxy- acy cutting and welding
  • heating and bending metal
  • safety practices

Introduction to Agricultural Mechanics (9026)
Grades: 10-12    Length: 1 semester     Credit: ½ credit      GPA weight: 1.0
Prerequisite: Introduction to World of Agricultural Science and Technology
This course emphasizes:

  • specialized skills in agriculture mechanics
  • developing skills and safe use in carpentry, electricity, plumbing, masonry, fencing, painting, metal working, and welding

Animal Science (9046)
Grades: 10-12    Length: 1 semester     Credit: ½ credit      GPA weight: 1.1
Prerequisite: Introduction to World of Agricultural Science and Technology

Note: This course articulates on the state-wide articulation plan with community colleges for 3 hours in Agriculture with a grade of "B" or higher. Such a grade qualifies as an Advanced Measure on the Distinguished Achievement Plan.

This course emphasizes:

  • development of knowledge and skills pertaining to the nutrition, reproduction, health, and management of domestic animals

Equine Science (9014)
Grades: 10-12    Length: 1 semester      Credit: ½ credit      GPA weight: 1.1
Prerequisite: Introduction to World of Agricultural Science and Technology

Note: This course articulates on the state-wide articulation plan with community colleges for 3 hours in Agriculture with a grade of "B" or higher. Such a grade qualifies as an Advanced Measure on the Distinguished Achievement Plan.

This course emphasizes:

  • the development of knowledge and skills pertaining to the selection, nutrition, reproduction, health, and management of horses

Agricultural Mechanics I (9032)
Grades: 11-12    Length: 2 semesters     Credit: 2 credits per year      GPA weight: 1.1
Prerequisites: Introduction to Ag. Mechanics and teacher approval


Note: This course meets two periods every day and meets requirements for P.E. credit.  This course articulates on the state-wide articulation plan with community colleges for 3 hours in Agriculture with a grade of "B" or higher. Such a grade qualifies as an Advanced Measure on the Distinguished Achievement Plan.

This course emphasizes:

Agricultural Mechanics II (9033)
Grade: 12    Length: 2 semesters     Credit: 2 credits per year      GPA weight: 1.1
Prerequisites: Agricultural Mechanics I and teacher approval
