Classroom Activities

Students are now registering for next year's Teacher Prep Program.  Students need to complete an application to be considered for the course.  Upon completion of the application, students will need to set up an interview with Ms. Horton.  Counselors are now scheduling students for next year's program based on their approval from the interview process.  You may receive an application from your English teacher or from your counselor.  Ms. Horton schedules interviews before and after the school day.

The purpose of the teacher prep program is to allow students to experience the responsibilities of a career in education.  This is a state approved innovative program with a purpose of addressing teacher shortage by helping Texas to "grow it's own" teachers.

Students in the program work thoughout the district in assigned classrooms.  They are assigned to experienced supervising teachers.  Once assigned, the students perform duties such as classroom management, tutoring, record-keeping, lesson planning, and teaching.  Students also complete a project each six weeks for the field-site teacher.  This project includes things like field trip assistance, working with students who have fallen behind, reinforcing lessons, and teaching lessons based on grade level objectives.

Students also volunteer to help with activities such as parent meetings, student assemblies and extra curricular activities outside of their class experiences. (See course information and more pictures below)

TheFamily, Career, and Community Leaders of America members workedin cooperation with the March of Dimes to raise money for the new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Tyler.  The members raised funds throughout the month of March and a grand total of $4000.00 was donated the help save the babies and serve East Texas families. This is just one of the many projects the students do as service to our community.
