About Coach Johnston

Coach Johnston has taught for 24 years at Chapel Hill.  In addition to being the Women's Athletic Director, she is the head coach for the Cross Country and Women's Track Teams.  Other duties she has had while at CHHS include teaching health and physical education.  Coach Johnston is a graduate of the University of Texas at Tyler with a Master's degree in Education.  In addition to her school responsibilities, Coach Johnston is also actively involved in the Texas Girls Coaches Association where she has held the office of president.  Coach Johnston has served on the Cross Country and Girls Track committee for the TGCA.  She is married to Coach Alan Johnston and the mother of two children, Rachel and Caleb.

Course Descriptions

Foundations of Personal Fitness (2052)
Grades: 9-12    Length: 1 semester     Credit: ½ credit     GPA weight: 1.0

Note: This course is required for all three graduation plans unless a student is involved in athletics, band, drill team, cheerleading, or an approved career and technology program which requires physical activity.

This course emphasizes:

  • mental skills and knowledge of body functioning in relation to physical activity
  • the effects of physical activity on the body
  • written work as well as physical activity

Physical Education-Aerobics (2053)
Grades: 9-12    Length: 1-2 semesters     Credit: ½ credit per semester      GPA weight: 1.0
This course emphasizes:

  • aerobic physical fitness
  • body toning and shaping
  • flexibility and coordination
  • evaluation through written tests, skills tests, and participation
  • lifetime activities

Girls Athletics (2062, 2048)
Grades: 10-12    Length: 2 semesters     Credit: 1 credit per year       GPA weight: 1.0
Prerequisite: Approval of Head Coach
This course emphasizes:

  • skills required for volleyball, basketball, track, softball
  • strength and conditioning
  • teamwork through competition

9th Grade Girls Athletics (2059)
Grade: 9    Length: 2 semesters     Credit: 1 credit per year     GPA weight: 1.0
Prerequisite: Approval of Head Coach
This course emphasizes:

  • developing the same skills as Girls Athletics (see above)
