About Mrs. Griffin

Mrs. Griffin is in her first year teaching at Chapel Hill High School and her sixth year in education.  She is a 1997 graduate of Chapel Hill where she was a lieutenant of the Highlighter Drill Team.  She went on to dance as a Kilgore College Rangerette and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of North Texas in 2001.  Mrs. Griffin teaches Dance I-IV and directs the Highlighter Drill Team.

Course Descriptions

Dance I (2035)
Grades: 9-12     Length: 2 semesters     Credit: 1 credit per year      GPA weight: 1.0

Note: This course may be taken for either P.E. or Fine Arts credit.  Initial cost involved.

This course emphasizes:

  • dance as a fine art
  • beginning to intermediate techniques in various types of dance
  • opportunities to explore, choreograph, and critique various forms of dance
  • opportunities to perform once per semester

Dance II (2036)
Grades: 9-12    Length: 2 semesters     Credit: 1 credit per year     GPA weight: 1.0
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Dance I or teacher-approved formal studio training

Note: Initial cost involved

This course emphasizes:

  • dance as a fine art
  • advanced techniques in various types of dance
  • many opportunities for improvisation, choreography, and critique
  • 2-3 performance opportunities

Drill Team I, II, III (2040, 2041, 2042)
Grades: 9-12     Length: 2 semesters     Credit: 1 credit per year      GPA weight: 1.0
Prerequisite: Tryouts; previous involvement in Dance I, CHMS Sapphires, or another pre-approved extracurricular activity, unless a scheduling problem has occured due to required courses.

Note: Required outside of school practices, performances, and day camp. Initial cost involved.

This course emphasizes:

  • proper intermediate/advanced dance technique
  • team-building, self-discipline, responsibility, motivation, dedication
  • many opportunities to be a part of an elite performance dance group
