About Mrs. Griffin

Mrs. Griffin is in her first year teaching at Chapel Hill High School and her sixth year in education. She is a 1997 graduate of Chapel Hill where she was a lieutenant of the Highlighter Drill Team. She went on to dance as a Kilgore College Rangerette and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of North Texas in 2001. Mrs. Griffin teaches Dance I-IV and directs the Highlighter Drill Team.

Course Descriptions

Dance I (2035)
Grades: 9-12 Length: 2 semesters Credit: 1 credit per year GPA weight: 1.0

Note: This course may be taken for either P.E. or Fine Arts credit. Initial cost involved.

This course emphasizes:

dance as a fine art
beginning to intermediate techniques in various types of dance
opportunities to explore, choreograph, and critique various forms of dance
opportunities to perform once per semester

Dance II (2036)
Grades: 9-12 Length: 2 semesters Credit: 1 credit per year GPA weight: 1.0
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Dance I or teacher-approved formal studio training

Note: Initial cost involved

This course emphasizes:

dance as a fine art
advanced techniques in various types of dance
many opportunities for improvisation, choreography, and critique
2-3 performance opportunities

Drill Team I, II, III (2040, 2041, 2042)
Grades: 9-12 Length: 2 semesters Credit: 1 credit per year GPA weight: 1.0
Prerequisite: Tryouts; previous involvement in Dance I, CHMS Sapphires, or another pre-approved extracurricular activity, unless a scheduling problem has occured due to required courses.

Note: Required outside of school practices, performances, and day camp. Initial cost involved.

This course emphasizes:

proper intermediate/advanced dance technique
team-building, self-discipline, responsibility, motivation, dedication
many opportunities to be a part of an elite performance dance group
