Ms. Murphree is in her 20th year at Chapel Hill High School as an Algebra teacher and 19th year as cheer sponsor.  She received her Bachelor Degree from University of Texas at Tyler.

Course Descriptions

Algebra II (0260)
Grades: 10-12    Length: 2 semesters     Credit: 1 credit per year      GPA weight: 1.0
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Algebra I and Geometry

Note: This course is required on the Recommended and Distinguished graduation plans for students entering 9th grade in 2004-05 through 2006-07 and for all students entering 9th grade in 2007-08 and after.

This course emphasizes:

  • the study of algebraic concepts and the relationships among them
  • the perception of functions/equations as a means for analyzing and understanding a variety of relationships
  • tools for algebraic thinking, including powerful calculators
  • continual use of problem-solving

Algebra II-Pre-AP (0261)
Grades: 10-11     Length: 2 semesters      Credit: 1 credit per year      GPA weight: 1.2
Prerequisites: Successful completion of at Algebra I Pre-AP and/or Geometry Pre-AP and teacher recommendation; highly motivated student
This course emphasizes:

  • topics covered in Algebra II in greater extension and depth and taught at a faster pace
  • higher-order critical thinking skills

TAKS Math (0006)
Grades: 11-12    Length: 1 semester     Credit: ½ credit per semester      GPA weight: 1.0

Note: This course will be required for all seniors who did not master Exit Level TAKS Math and recommended for selected juniors who did not master 10th grade TAKS Math.

This course emphasizes:

  • an intensive review of TAKS Math objectives

Cheerleading (2080)
Grades: 9-10    Length: 2 semesters     Credit: 1 credit per year      GPA weight: 1.0
Prerequisite: Application, tryout, and sponsor approval in the previous spring

Note: Required participation at athletic events as designated by the sponsor
Initial cost involved

This course emphasizes:

  • supporting school athletics
  • promoting school spirit and leadership
  • practice and conditioning 
  • organizing and developing performance and competition routines

Varsity Cheerleading (2081)
Grades: 11-12    Length: 2 semesters     Credit: 1 local credit per year      GPA weight: 0
Prerequisite: Application, tryout, and sponsor approval in the previous spring

Note: Required participation at athletic events as designated by the sponsor
Initial cost involved

In addition to the information from the above course, this course emphasizes:

  • advanced gymnastics and cheerleading skills
  • greater involvement in school athletic events
  • choreography for dance routines
