About Ms. Walton

Mrs. Walton is in her 10th year at Chapel Hill High School and her 23rd year in education.  She attended TJC for two years and finished with a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M at Commerce, TX.   She also has a Masters of Education with an all-level ESL endorsement from the University of Texas at Tyler.  Mrs. Walton teaches ESL classes and manages the high school ESL program.

English Speakers of Other Languages-ESOL I, II (0048, 0052)
Grades: 9-10    Length: 2 semesters     Credit: 1 credit per year      GPA weight: 1.0
Prerequisite: State-approved guidelines for Non-English/Beginning English Speakers

Note: ESOL I and II may be substituted for English I and II for qualified ESOL students who were born outside the United States of America.

These courses emphasize:

  • State-adopted program focusing on the arts and literature across the culture
  • Literature selections and activities designed to benefit students' language learning, introduce literary language and concepts, and help develop skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking
  • United States cultural awareness and history

English for Newcomers ESL I-A (0047)
Grades: 9-10    Length: 2 semesters     Credit: 1 credit per year     GPA weight: 1.0
Note: This course is designed for Non-English Speakers and Beginning English Speakers.
This courses emphasizes:

  • an introduction to form, meaning, and usage of basic structures and grammar in English
  • additional opportunities for practice and development of the English language

Intermediate English ESL II (0051)
Grades: 10-12    Length : 2 semesters     Credit: 1 credit per year      GPA weight: 1.0
Note: This course is designed for High Beginning/Intermediate English Speakers.
This course emphasizes:

  • a combination of basic English grammar and reading and a multimedia program
  • continued focus of development of language skills in listening, reading, writing, and speaking
  • TAKS preparation

Advanced English ESL Independent Study (0058)
Grades: 9-12    Length: 2 semesters     Credit: 1 credit per year      GPA weight: 1.0
Note: This course is designed for Advanced English Speakers and Intermediate Readers/Writers.
This course emphasizes:

  • TAKS preparation
  • support for subject areas in which the student needs additional assistance
