I have been teaching for three years, all of them at CHMS.  I am certified by the State of Texas to teach Math, English and Special Education.  I received my Bachelor of Arts degree with honors from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois where I majored in English Literature.  I also have a law degree from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.  Although born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago, I have made Texas my home since 1992.

Course Descriptions

MATH                                                   All Year

8th Grade Mathematics includes the following objectives: 1) Concepts and skills associated with the understanding of numbers and the place-value system 2) Operations on numbers, their properties, and their uses 3) Experience in solving problems by selecting and matching strategies to given situations 4) Investigation of the properties and relationships of geometric figures using measurement concepts and skills 5) The use of probability and statistics to collect and interpret data 6) Concepts involved in the analysis and graphing of relations and functions. 

ALGEBRA I - 1 High School Credit      All Year

This course is a combination of 8th grade math and high school-level Algebra I; therefore the workload is double that of the 8th Grade Math class. Enrollment upon criteria such as previous math grades, TAKS scores, score on the 7th grade Algebra readiness test and teacher recommendations. Grades earned in this class will appear on the student’s high school transcript. Students who do not maintain at least an 80% class average are subject to being transferred into a regular math class. This course emphasizes: 1) The real number system and its properties 2) Solving and graphing linear equations in one and two variables 3) Polynomials 4) Factoring 5) Radicals 6) Functions.
