| What is Reading First? |
|
Reading First is a federal initiative authorized by the No Child Left Behind Act. The U.S. Department of Education provides Reading First grants to states, which, in turn, award sub grants to eligible school districts that submit approved proposals for how they will apply scientifically based reading research to improve reading instruction and student achievement. The common goal for all school districts is to have students reading at or above grade level by the end of third grade. Jackson Elementary School is in the 5th year of implementing Reading First. This packet provides more information about the grant, and different ways that parents and teachers can assist students in reading. If you have any questions about Reading First, or any of the information on this webpage, please feel free to contact Connie Kerr, LCC at 903-566-3411 Ext. 1010, or kerrc@chapelhillisd.org |
