I am in my 22nd year at Chapel Hill High  School. I am the sponsor for UIL Accounting and co-sponsor in Business Professionals of America and National Technical Honor Society.  I have a Bachelors degree in Business Administration.

Course Descriptions

Accounting I (4020)
Grades: 10-12    Length: 2 semesters     Credit: 1 credit per year      GPA weight: 1.1

Note: This course articulates on the state-wide articulation plan with community colleges for 3 hours in Business with a grade of "B" or better. Such a grade qualifies as an Advanced Measure on the Distinguished Achievement Plan.

This course emphasizes

  • general accounting concepts, principles, and procedures
  • financial records
  • basic steps of accounting cycle
  • developing skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary to conduct personal business or pursue further education in the field of accounting
  • some data processing

Accounting II (4021)
Grades: 11-12     Length: 2 semesters      Credit: 1 credit per year     GPA weight: 1.1
Prerequisite: Accounting I

Note: This course articulates on the state-wide articulation plan with community colleges for 3 hours in Business with a grade of "B" or better. Such a grade qualifies as an Advanced Measure on the Distinguished Achievement Plan.

This course emphasizes:

  • computerized accounting
  • skills using "real world" accounting software
  • developing additional skills in applying principles used in accounting systems

Career Preparation Requirements
Students must meet the following requirements before being admitted:

  • Make application to one of these programs and obtain teacher approval.
  • Be able to provide "dependable" transportation.
  • Must work cooperatively with the teacher-coordinator in obtaining approved training employment prior to the end of the second week of school.
  • Must follow the program rules and regulations.
  • Parents and students must indicate agreement to these rules and regulations through signing a program rules/regulations contract.
  • Students must be enrolled for a full year in order to receive any credits.

In the Cooperative Education program, students may be assigned two state-credit work release periods per day. Seniors may also have up to two local-credit work release periods per day.

DCP-I (Diversified Career Preparation I) (6010)
Grades: 11-12    Length: 2 semesters     Credits: 3 credits per year      GPA weight: 1.0
Prerequisites: Keyboarding or equivalent and Work Program application (see above)

 Note: The students obtain classroom instruction and on-the-job training. They must be paid at least minimum wage and work at least 15 hours per week.

This course emphasizes:

  • communications skills, employment skills, job success
  • career opportunities
  • time management
  • inventory procedures
  • word processing, spreadsheets, desktop publishing
  • money management
  • on-the-job safety

DCP-II (Diversified Career Preparation II) (6020)
Grade: 12     Length: 2 semesters     Credits: 3 credits per year      GPA weight: 1.0
Prerequisites: DCP-I and application (see above)

Note: See Note under DCP-I.

This course emphasizes:

  • additional training in skills outlined under DCP-I

Office Aide (9991)
Grade: 12    Length: 1-2 semesters      Credit: ½-1 credit       GPA weight: 1.0
Prerequisite: Students must be willing to follow directions from administrative and secretarial staffs and be able to work well with campus visitors. Counselor and principal approval required.

Note: Students will receive credit for Business Support Systems.

Tyler Junior College Early Admission Release
Grade: 12    Length: 1-2 semesters     Credit: 0      GPA weight: 0
Prerequisite: THEA-Exempt or THEA-Passed; counselor approval. Proof of registration through TJC is required.

Note: Students may register for two consecutive TJC release periods per day. See your counselor for more information. A grade of "B" or better on the Early Admission course will qualify this course as an Advanced Measure on the Distinguished Achievement Plan.
