About Mr. Johnston

Mr. Johnston is a 1985 graduate of Chapel Hill High School, and a 1990 graduate of  Texas A & M University.  He is currently teaching his 15th year at Chapel Hill, and his 16th year overall. Mr. Johnston teaches IPC and Physics.  He has been married for three years to Shelly Johnston.  They are the proud parents of Macie Claire ( 18 months ).

Integrated Physics and Chemistry (0300)
Grade: 10      Length: 2 semesters     Credit: 1 credit per year       GPA weight: 1.0
Prerequisite: None
This course emphasizes:

  • basic concepts of chemistry and physics
  • safety procedures, measurement, phases of matter, chemical reactions
  • motion, work, sound, light

Integrated Physics and Chemistry Pre-AP (0301)
Grade: 10      Length: 2 semesters          Credit: 1 credit per year            GPA weight: 1.2
Prerequisites: Average of "85" or higher in Biology I, successful completion of Algebra I,
and teacher recommendation
This course emphasizes:

  • comprehensive study of chemistry and physics
  • laboratory activities to explore interaction of matter
  • forces, energy, laws of motion, work sound, light

Physics I Pre-AP (0361)
Grades: 11-12     Length: 2 semesters      Credit: 1 credit per year      GPA weight: 1.2
Prerequisite: Algebra II and teacher approval
This course emphasizes:

  • study of matter, energy, and fundamental forces
  • mechanics, heat waves, electromagnetism, and nuclear physics
  • lab work to explore laws and theories
  • critical thinking and problem-solving
