Please review the Course Catalog and grade-level choice sheets below for scheduling information. The Texas Legislature recently enacted a bill requiring middle school students to take 4 semesters of PE during the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. |
Seventh grade students will participate in "Project Alert" again during 2008-09. Project Alert is a federally approved drug and alcohol prevention program for middle school students. The curriculum includes many activities and short videos. It emphasizes the immediate and long term consequences of tobacco, alcohol and drug usage. A key component of the program is instruction in various ways to say "no" and get out of difficult peer pressure situation. Students are encouraged to apply two questions to difficult situations: "Will it make an authority angry?" or "Does it break the law?" Mrs. Hayden will teach the curriculum in each seventh grade team for six Fridays. |

"Lunch Bunch" groups will be held to assist students with specific concerns. These groups meet during the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade lunch periods. Students in these groups meet weekly for a limited period of time with Mrs. Simms or Mr. Clark to discuss various topics: study skills, anger management, grief, and other social issues with which students often struggle. If you are interested in your student attending one of these sessions, please contact your counselor. |
