Dear Parent / Guardian,
This year's school calendar looks different from previous years' calendars. The Chapel Hill Independent School District applied to the Texas Education Agency for the Optional Flexible Year Program for the 2009 - 2010 school year. In accordance with Texas Education Code (TEC) §29.0821, a school district may modify its instructional calendar to provide a flexible year program to meet the educational needs of the students, including providing intensive instructional services. The OFYP calendar allows CHHS to dismiss the school year eight (8) days early (on May 21) for students who meet all of the following criteria: Every high school student meeting the above criteria will be released from school on Friday, May 21, 2010, rather than Thursday, June 3, 2010. We are making preparations for students not meeting the above criteria to attend small group and one on one instruction in the core content areas including TAKS preparation. By offering students extra time and help in a small class setting during the regular school year, OFYP days have proven to help more students pass their courses, to pass the TAKS test, and to graduate on time.
We are excited about the opportunities offered to our students. As your child 's principal, I want to call your attention to some activities coming up on campus. Visit our website and enjoy reading about the other things going on at Chapel Hill High School. Your support is critical to the success of this school; and I, along with our faculty and staff, look forward to seeing you. Yours In Education, Lamond Dean
