 Senior Parent Financial Aid Night
Monday, February 8th 6:30-8pm
CHS Library

Four financial aid (money) specialists from Tyler Junior College will present options for financing your senior’s higher education at any college and technical school with a focus on how to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  Even if your senior does not qualify for a federal Pell grant, colleges use the information on the FAFSA to determine eligibility for state grants and scholarships.

Parents will need to bring parent and student PIN numbers, their completed 2009 income tax forms if possible, and completed FAFSA-on-the-Web worksheets that have been given to your senior.  As a special bonus, the financial aid representatives will actually help you complete the FAFSA on-line in Chapel Hill High School computer labs so that your student can qualify for as much grant and scholarhip money as possible.  Put this on your calendar NOW and be there even if you have not completed your 2009 taxes.

As you know Chapel Hill High School was selected by Tyler Junior College to pilot a special grant program for the purpose of encouraging college attendance. In order for graduating seniors to enroll in Texas colleges, universities, or technical schools,  they must take or be exempt from the THEA test (Texas Higher Education Assessment). This test assesses reading, writing, and math college readiness.

tstcmarshall_h.jpg Texas State Technical College Marshall invites you to apply for our scholarships. Each year a number of individuals, businesses, and organizations provide scholarships for TSTC Marshall students. These allow students to be recognized for their hard work. A student can apply for scholarships through one basic application, unless applying for the East Texas Manufacturers Scholarship or the Plastipak Sponsorship. The Scholarship Application Deadline is April 15, 2010. http://www.marshall.tstc.edu/financialaid/scholarships.shtml

ACET (Association for Compensatory Educators of Texas) offers twenty scholarships annually to graduating high school students. The tuition scholarships are for $1,000, and are payable directly to the college, university, or other post-secondary institution of the student's choice. Student applicants must provide documented proof of participation in a compensatory education program sometime during their school career. According to the ACET website, compensatory programs are those that provide remedial assistance and support for students who have failed TAKS or are at-risk of dropping out of school. Additionally, programs for migrant, Title I, Bilingual/ESL, and pregnant or parenting students would be considered compensatory. Applications will be available for download toward the end of January.
