About Ms. Childs

Mrs. Childs began teaching at Chapel Hill in 1981 after graduating  from Baylor University.  Mrs. Childs has  taught World History, American History , Texas History, Geography, Debate, AVID, Communication Application and English.  It has been said about Mrs. Childs that she is enthusiastic about them Dawgs.  She loves to hear from students she has taught, so drop her a line.

Course Descriptions

Communications Applications (0960)
Grades: 9-12    Length: 1 semester     Credit: ½ credit      GPA weight: 1.0
This course emphasizes:

  • the communication process
  • interpersonal development and group dynamics
  • oral presentations and interviewing skills

Debate (0970)
Grades: 10-12     Length: 2 semesters     Credit: 1credit per year      GPA weight: 1.0
Prerequisite: Communications applications preferred

Note: Students will be required to participate in UIL debate and speech events.

This course emphasizes:

  • the study of fundamentals of debate, topic research, and extemporaneous speaking
  • tournament practice and procedures

English III (0030)
Grade: 11    Length: 2 semesters     Credit: 1credit per year      GPA weight: 1.0
Prerequisite: Successful completion of English II
This course emphasizes:

  • the development of American literature
  • utilizing techniques of research, grammar, usage and mechanics, and vocabulary to generate a variety of written materials
  • employing the writing process to develop composition skills by writing a variety of multi-paragraph essays of increasing complexity; emphasis on Exit Level TAKS ELA
  • developing the reading comprehension skills needed for mastery of the Exit Level TAKS ELA
