Degrees and Certifications:
My name is Mary Ellen Montiel, I have been teaching for about 8 years and find great joy in being able to help students on a daily basis. I am a Response to Intervention (RTI) Teacher here at Wise.
RTI is a multi-tier approach to the early identification and support of students with learning needs. At Wise the RTI process begins with high-quality instruction and screening of children in the general education classroom who are not meeting grade level expectations. We have a pull out system which allows us to work with students in a small group setting. In these small groups students who attend Reading Intervention focus on phonics, word work, writing, reading texts, making connections, and comprehension. During Math Intervention students work on number sense, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions and work hard to understand word problems and being able to identify what operation to use. Students in RTI at Wise are challenged on a daily basis to reach goals they have set for themselves, as well as goals that the RTI committee have set for them. Students are closely monitored and when significant process is made and they no longer require the services of the RTI team they are returned to their classroom.
I have three beautiful children, Mike, Cielo and Celeste. We are originally from El Paso, Texas and moved to Tyler, Texas about 7 years ago. I graduated from the University of Texas in El Paso with a BA in Bilingual Education Early Childhood through fourth grade.
I love to do projects, spend time with my kids, watch movies, read and just be out and about.
A little about me: I love chocolate and my favorite drinks are Strawberry Limeades and Dr. Pepper.
