"How can I get involved?" is a question most parents, especially those that work full-time, are hesitant to ask their child's teacher or school personnel. Below are some opportunities parents have at Kissam to get more involved on our campus and in their student's school life.
We always welcome parent volunteers to help set up, serve, and participate in our class parties. Please look for notes around Christmas and Valentine's Day on how to help make our class celebrations that much more special.
Our PTO board is full of new excited and motivated members, but they are in need of parent volunteers to help ensure fundraisers like our Cookie Dough Sale or our Chocolate Bar fundrasier are organized and make enough money to fund field trips, buy educational materials, and classroom accessories or furniture.
Our WatchDog program is a nationally acclaimed program for fathers and father figures to spend a day at school with their student. Watchdogs are given a schedule that allows them to spend time in class with their own student as well as spend time getting to know other students and staff members. Having these men visible on campus provides more community relationships to be made and positive male role models for all of our students.
Our Divas program is very similar to our Watchdogs; however it was founded locally and is for mothers or mother figures. They too are given a daily schedule that allows them to move around campus and be involved in activities and classes other than that of their own student.
Parent Involvement Activities
These days are activities planned by each grade level, usually one a semester, for parents to either complete a project at home with their student and then present it at school or for the parent to attend in the classroom. The activity type and schedule varies among grade level. Be sure to check your child's calendar for these dates each semester.
To sign up for either the Watchdog or Diva program please email our counselor, Heather Wright firstname.lastname@example.org.
