Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Camie Evans
Who: My name is Camie Evans. I am a mother of two wonderful children and am one of the Dyslexia and Reading Interventionists at our school.
When: This is my third year at Wise Elementary School and my thirteenth year of teaching. It is my fifth year as an interventionist.
Where: I graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University, where I met my husband of 30 years.
What: After seven years of teaching Math and Science only, I had the opportunity to teach all subjects in a self-contained classroom and became very interested in teaching Reading and Language Arts. In 2013, I had the wonderful opportunity to receive special training in Houston, at Neuhaus Education Center, to become a dyslexia interventionist. The intervention program that CHISD uses is Basic Language Skills, which is intensive and comprehensive instruction for students with dyslexia and other related disorders (instruction includes phonemic awareness, decoding, fluency, oral language, comprehension, and composition.)
Why: Because I have a brother with special needs, I have appreciated the compassion and motivation that is given to students who learn in different ways. I have heard it said that we all have "an island of weakness in a sea of strengths". I am a teacher because I hope to help students focus on their strengths. I hope that they each will learn and utilize tools and strategies that will strengthen their weaknesses.
